Following the flood of 2013 in Erie, Colorado, an inspection of the dam showed a superficial crack in the downstream slope. Geotechnical drilling operations within Erie Lake Reservoir occurred as part of a pre-feasibility study to examine the potential for construction of a new dam. A total of three holes were drilled at a depth of approximately 40-50 feet below the water surface into the underlying bedrock. The barge was equipped with a five horsepower engine and used NQ core rods as spud bars to hold the barge in place as drilling took place. Soil samples where obtained with Split Spoon and California Barrel samplers.
We designed the barge so that it could be transported with our equipment carrier; unload, assemble and load the drill in one day.
